Call Script

Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be put through to your Representative (the House will vote first).  If you don't know who your Representative is, click here.

Ask to speak with the person who handles trade (this may be the foreign policy aid or it may be someone else).  If s/he is not available, be prepared to leave a message.

Here is a sample call script, but feel free to emphasize the issues that are important to you:

"Hello, my name is ________________ and I'm calling from
___(neighborhood, organization, union, etc)__ to express my concern about the pending Free Trade Agreement the US has negotiated with Colombia.

In 2010, 51 trade unionists were killed in Colombia, an increase over the previous yaer.  The 51 trade unionists murdered are not only more than in any other country in the world but more than all other countries put together last year.  Free trade cannot be fair trade if workers are getting killed.  Colombia has not met the minimal standards needed before Rep/Sen _____ votes on the pending Colombia Free Trade Agreement.  I urge you to oppose this agreement until a new model can be developed that supports worker rights, both at home and abroad.

Thank you for your time."

After you've made your call, ask for an email address so you can send your Representative a copy of USLEAP's Impunity Report or Impunity Fact Sheet.  You can also mail copies to him/her: Rep. _______, U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, DC 20515 but email is faster and doesn't have to clear security clearances.
